LOCATION

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The school, Rantzausminde Skole, is a school with about 500 pupils from the age of 6 to 16. It is a public school with a great variety of students, when it comes to socio-economics and ethnicity.

Furthermore the school has a number of pupils with special needs and disabilities, and it has politically been decided that even more of this group of pupils should be included in classes. Next school year the school is going to start an international class, with pupils who have a special interest in languages - especially when it comes to English, and who want a deeper knowledge, when it comes to global issues. This is one of the reasons why our school participate in this project. It is important that the pupils get the possibility to communicate in real life and thereby can compare their way of life with other children from other countries.

Rantzausminde Skole is situated in the outskirts of the town Svendborg on the island Fyn in the southern part of Denmark on Dyrekredsen 12, 5700 Svendborg. The school is near the ocean which is a great part of living in this part of the country and an important part of the history of the town of almost 770 years. Farmland and forest is also nearby, which gives a possibility to use nature within the classroom.

Last school year the school joined an Eramus project with schools from Spain and Romania, and because of our future international class, we would like to open up for further co-operation with countries in Europe. We believe that working with other cultures gives our students a deeper knowledge of themselves and an understanding of what is needed to communicate with people of another culture and social understanding.

All pupils in Denmark have to learn English and either German or French, and it is our hope, that partnerships outside the borders of Denmark can increase the interest among the pupils to use their knowledge about languages more actively.

The teachers connected with the project is English and German teacher Helle Raun Hansen and the team coordinator of the school Marie Nysted. But other teachers will take part in the project with their different perspectives on the themes we are going to work with across the borders. We hope that our earlier experience in Erasmus projects can contribute positively in this project, and that our focus on using CL activities in our daily teaching can inspire other teachers.
